Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is often delayed

The diagnosis of osteoarthritis in patients with shoulder instability following corrective surgery is often for a condition that was affecting the patient before they went under the knife.

And, according to new research conducted by scientists at Keio University, Tokyo, the progression of osteoarthritis in such patients is slow, reported Ortho Supersite.

The surgeons looked at 163 patients undergoing Bankart repair. All patients included in the cohort study had no history of shoulder surgery.

Following a statistical analysis of osteoarthritis progression in the participants, they found that it increased slightly in 14 joints during the post-operative period, while in 30 joints there was an increase in incidence of dislocations and subluxations, the news provider stated.

Recently, research published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery showed that the rate of shoulder dislocations in elderly women could be linked directly to the higher incidence of falls in the demographic.ADNFCR-2255-ID-19827654-ADNFCR
