Nurses should use data gathered on patient outcomes following hip replacement surgery to improve the quality of care they offer, it has been claimed.
According to the Nursing Times, academics have called on more widespread joint replacement information to be gathered so that rapid recovery programmes and process optimisation can be improved.
"I think the nursing profession should have quite a lot to say about patient reported outcome measures," Kate Seers told the news provider.
"Having something which shows the outcome for patients is crucial to nursing practice," she added.
Meanwhile, a recent study published in the Arthritis Research and Therapy publication noted that a patient's expectations of what joint replacement surgery entails did not influence their recovery from conditions such as osteoarthritis.
The research also showed that around 88 per cent of the 122 patients surveyed said the outcome of their surgery was either 'good' or 'excellent'.
