Orthopaedics firms must 'strive to offer patients value'

Orthopaedics manufacturers such as Biomet should continue striving to offer patients and the medical establishment value for money, it has been claimed.
Writing for Ortho Supersite, industry expert Cindy Shawe claimed that orthopaedic technology companies are in an ideal position to lead the way when it comes to reducing the cost of healthcare.
She said: "We must find new ways to deliver unprecedented levels of value to all customers, leveraging new innovations and providing fully-integrated solutions that dramatically improve efficiencies and optimise both clinical and economic outcomes."
Shawe claimed that in order for biotechnology firms to achieve this they need to look at the entire "orthopaedic episode of care" from start to finish.
Last year, orthopaedics specialist Anthony DiGioia claimed that changes to orthopaedic technology - including the development of computerised surgical aids - was helping to alter both medical professionals and patient perceptions of the sector.
