A recently published journal article has shown that the potential for partial knee replacement (PKR) is far-reaching, with 47.6% of 200 candidates surveyed suitable for PKR1.
Research conducted by The Knee has indicated that today, PKR is only used for 8-15% of knee arthroplasties and typically total knee \rthroplasty (TKA) is used. The research also concluded that PKR's are “functionally superior” and offer a cost saving of £1761 per knee compared to TKA1.
PKR’s also benefit the patient by offering a less invasive surgical technique which can allow decreased hospital stay and less postoperative pain.
