Exercise can reduce arthritis pain

Regular exercise is an effective means of reducing arthritic pain and can get rid of it entirely in some cases, it has been claimed.

According to the training department director of Newhall's Results Fitness Gym Mike Wunscht, elderly patients can benefit from the same exercise routine that people without osteoarthritis undertake.

"Exercise can make arthritis pain a little better or take it away completely, it just depends on the person and how hard they're willing to work," Mr Wunscht told the Signal.

"Whatever available pain-free range of motion they have lets us know what their limitations are, but I tell them, I know you have arthritis, I know it hurts, and working out is going to hurt a little bit at first, but we try to be as pain free as possible," he added.

Mr Wunscht's comments came as the Arthritis Foundation launched its new Moving is the Best Medicine campaign.

And, recent research published in the Journal of Rheumatology showed that exercise can delay the progression of osteoarthritis.ADNFCR-2255-ID-19781600-ADNFCR
