Gentle exercise can benefit osteoarthritis sufferers

Gentle physical activity, such as tai chi, walking and swimming can be a huge benefit for rheumatoid arthritis sufferers, it has been claimed.
According to the Arthritic Association, there are a number of active steps people can take to reduce the pain they experience as a result of arthritis.
Lynda Scott-Williams, chief executive of the association, said: "Individuals with rheumatoid arthritis do lead full and productive lives, although they do need to take care of themselves and recognise that they have limitations that they didn't have before the rheumatoid arthritis became diagnosed or evident."
"We advocate no red meat. We're not as strong on the oily fish as a number of other people are, but we do recommend some white fish," she added.
Cirian Marie-Beddoes, leading dietician and head of weight management services at The Hospital Group, claimed that tackling obesity is essential if the incidence of osteoarthritis is to be reduced.
