Massage can 'reduce osteoarthritis pain'

Massage can reduce the pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee, it has been claimed.

According to a new article published in the Arthritis Foundation's journal Arthritis Today, massage can be beneficial for patients and - if done properly - can help to relax a person's muscles.

"[The technique can] help you let go of tension and provide some arthritis pain relief," the authors of the article stated.

The article, entitled Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain Relief Without Drugs, noted that a number of other techniques can be used to reduce the symptomatic pain experienced by people with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Hot and cold treatments, a positive mental attitude and gentle, low-impact exercise were all highlighted.

"Keeping your joints and muscles moving helps improve your general fitness level and can decrease pain," the Arthritis Foundation noted.

Recently, the Arthritic Association claimed that tai chi and swimming can be hugely beneficial for those with rheumatoid arthritis.ADNFCR-2255-ID-19827679-ADNFCR
